Duraum Art Centre hosts wellness party ‘THE LIGHT SOCIETY’ – showcasing from barre to neuro arts medi-therapy

RAUM Art Centre wellness party ‘THE LIGHT SOCIETY’ to be held at the Chamber Hall on 19–20 August

During the evenings when summer’s heat lingers longest, a chance to care for both body and mind is being offered in the heart of Seoul’s Gangnam. RAUM Art Centre will host ‘RAUM Wellness Party : THE LIGHT SOCIETY’ over two days, on Wednesday 19 August and Thursday 20 August. Doors open at 7pm for both sessions, and the stage will be in the Chamber Hall on the fourth floor of RAUM Art Centre.

A night that begins with a welcome reception and moves into barre and neuro arts medi-therapy

The programme flows in three stages. It opens with a welcome reception at 7pm, followed by a barre session from 7.30pm, and neuro arts medi-therapy from 8pm. The order is to wake up the body first, then draw the sensations inside inwards.

Barre is a low-intensity exercise method that combines elements of Pilates and yoga with the basic movements of ballet. Participants are taught to keep hold of a barre used for ballet practice, repeat small-range movements and align their posture, in a form that even those with little exercise experience can follow. The subtitle, ‘THE LIGHT SOCIETY’, is a name that overlaps the two words for light and gathering, with a focus on a time when people who have finished the day come together in one space to restore their own rhythm.

A programme connecting neuroscience and art, led by Kim Ja-hye, director of RAUM Art Centre

Kim Ja-hye, director who leads the meditation sessions, is a performer who studied piano at Yonsei University and later studied music at New York’s Mannes College of Music and at a state university in New Jersey. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, the UN General Assembly hall and in the US Congress. She also served as the head of a US cultural foundation for 20 years.

After that, she studied art therapy, meditation and psychological counselling, and created neuro arts medi-therapy (Neuro Arts Medi-Therapy). It is a single programme that brings together neuroscience and art, meditation, sound therapy and psychological counselling. Kim currently serves as director of RAUM Art Centre and as CEO of Ttodak Ttodak Healing Art Centre, and she has previously run the same sessions at the Trump Club in New Jersey, in the US, which is used by President Trump at his residence.

Three artists who fill the room with movement and sound

The barre segment will be led by instructor Olivia Shin. A global wellness director who works across Korea, Bali, Bangkok and Singapore, she graduated from OCAD University and has experience directing brand communication strategy for Fortune 500 companies at TBWA Toronto and Idea Couture.

Live music will be provided by guitarist Jang Ha-eun. She graduated from the classical guitar department at Korea National University of Arts and is an adjunct professor with special appointment at Seoul Hoseo Arts School. She placed in the top five on JTBC’s ‘Superband 2’. She has performed as a guest with the Carnegie Hall Union City Orchestra as well as on solo stages. In 2025, she played as a cultural envoy at the Abu Dhabi presidential palace in the United Arab Emirates. As a singer-songwriter, she released the albums ‘Hwasang’ and ‘Soo jung bihaeng’.

The sound for the singing bowls will be handled by Choi Sun-hee, an expert in singing bowl meditation and sound healing. She is an authorised singing-bowl-meditation leader of the Korean Singing Bowl Association and a lecturer for the top-level course in wellness meditation at Eulji University. At Ttodak Ttodak Healing Art Centre, she works as a leader for singing-bowl meditation. She completed a course in functional anatomy at Wonkwang University and has introduced singing-bowl meditation on broadcast programmes including KBS1 entertainment shows.

A space reminiscent of a European castle, the Chamber Hall on the fourth floor of RAUM Art Centre

RAUM Art Centre, where the event will be held, is a multi-cultural venue located at 564 Eonju-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It opened in April 2010 and is known for its European castle-style architecture inspired by Scotland’s Skibo Castle. It is also the first space in South Korea to promote a ‘social venue’, where performances, exhibitions, banquets and weddings all take place within a single building.

The Chamber Hall on the fourth floor, the location for the programme, is closer between the stage and the audience than a main hall. The conditions, in which the host’s voice and the echoes of instruments carry close by, suit a participatory wellness programme.

Kim Ja-hye, director of Ttodak Ttodak Healing Art Centre, who successfully carried out the opening event, said she planned this event because she wants to contribute to healing the inner selves of more people through a new healing programme called neuro arts medi-therapy. She added, “From now on, through various healing-related events at RAUM Art Centre, we will help people notice the light within and manage their body and soul in good health.”

Tickets for the wellness party are available on the official The RAUM website below.
