‘Gangnam Healing Center’ to Lead the Popularization of K-Meditation  Operating Agreement

Grand Opening Ceremony Held Successfully on September 1

Good news has been delivered to modern people seeking a mental refuge in the city. A new space to soothe the weary minds of busy individuals has opened right in the heart of Gangnam.

A Meaningful Meeting Between the Korea Meditation Association and Gangnam District Office

On May 13, the Korea Meditation Association (Chairman Gak-san) signed an operating agreement for the ‘Gangnam Healing Center’ with Mayor Cho Sung-myung of Gangnam District Office in the conference room on the 3rd floor of the district office, and four months later, the fruits of that agreement have been realized.

This agreement was established as part of public cooperation to promote the popularization of K-Meditation and enhance the mental health of the public, and it is evaluated as a case showing the willingness of the private and public sectors to take care of the mental health of citizens.

The Korea Meditation Association serves as a focal point for meditation organizations across the country and is at the forefront of modernizing and spreading Korea's traditional meditation culture and K-Meditation. Through the operation of the Gangnam Healing Center, it will be responsible for providing a space for healing citizens' minds for three years until April 30, 2028.

Perfect Healing Infrastructure Built from Basement 3 to Ground 5

The Gangnam Healing Center, which officially opened on September 1 (Director Lee Yong-tae), is a modern building located in Sinsa-dong, Seoul, with three basement levels and five above-ground floors. Each floor features a distinctive space configuration.

Basements 1 to 3 are operated as a parking lot to enhance the convenience of center users, while the first floor includes a lobby, information desk, and a play area for children. The second-floor book café is a space where one can enjoy reading and relaxation simultaneously, providing a moment of mental respite amidst a busy life.

The third floor has Academy Rooms 1 and 2 where formal lectures and programs are conducted, while the fourth floor features group healing rooms that offer intensive healing programs for small groups. The fifth floor consists of a media lounge and a healing lounge, providing an optimal environment for personal meditation and relaxation.

“Spreading K-Meditation to the World in a Language Suitable for the Current Era”

At the opening ceremony, Gak-san conveyed the deep meaning of the center's establishment. “The establishment of the Gangnam Healing Center is the fruition of Mayor Cho Sung-myung's will to greatly contribute to the mental health and quality of life of Gangnam residents,” he stated, revealing the purpose of the establishment.

What particularly caught attention was Gak-san's vision for K-Meditation. “Just as ancient scriptures used language suitable for the culture and level of the people at the time, it is important to approach the public in a language suitable for the current era,” he expressed his ambition to make the center a focal point for the dissemination of ‘K-Meditation’ to the world.

This is interpreted as a commitment not merely to adhere to traditional meditation but to reinterpret it in a way that fits modern life, thereby promoting Korea's meditation culture worldwide.

Four Health Habit Programs Covering Body and Mind

The Gangnam Healing Center is establishing itself as a comprehensive wellness center beyond just a meditation space. All of the center's programs focus on forming four core habits for a healthy and happy life.

Divided into exercise habits, mental habits, relationship habits, and dietary habits, these programs help alleviate the stress and anxiety of modern individuals and restore inner peace. The meditation programs play a fundamental role in providing training to manage the mind and enhance concentration during this habit-forming process.

Looking at the programs operated throughout September, their diversity stands out. Special lectures by Dr. Park Moon-ho and Dr. Lee Si-hyung, as well as aroma therapy yoga, posture recovery exercises, ‘Stop and Look - Introduction to Meditation’, movement meditation Sun Life, charm-enhancing healing voice, and natural fragrance blending classes are all prepared.

Early Closure Due to High Interest

The interest of citizens in the center is confirmed by numbers. Out of 44 regular courses, a staggering 27 have closed early, and the bi-weekly Monday special lectures are filling up quickly with a capacity of 150 people, indicating explosive popularity.

This response can be seen as an indicator of how much modern individuals have longed for mental rest and healing. With increased interest in mental health following the COVID-19 pandemic, the citizens' welcoming attitude towards the establishment of a professional healing space in the easily accessible Gangnam area is clearly evident.

An Open Space for Everyone Beyond Religion

Gak-san emphasized, “As a public healing center established by the district office, it will be an open space that everyone can use, transcending religion.” This is interpreted as a commitment to open the doors to all citizens seeking peace of mind, regardless of specific religions or beliefs.

In fact, the center features an open library and a children's library that local residents can freely use, and various experiential programs are also available. The program structure, which includes not only meditation and yoga but also humanities courses, well demonstrates the center's inclusive nature.

Establishing Itself as a New Hub of Healing Culture in Gangnam

The successful opening of the Gangnam Healing Center signifies more than just the opening of a meditation center. It completes the K-Healing network encompassing the entire Gangnam area, along with the existing Gangpo-dong and COEX Gangnam Healing Centers operated by the Korea Meditation Association.

In particular, the center's location adjacent to Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong is expected to provide a space for stress relief for office workers and self-employed individuals in their 20s to 40s. The vision of K-Meditation that Gak-san proposed, “Approaching the public in a language suitable for the current era,” is being realized right here.

In the future, the Gangnam Healing Center is expected to play a new role as a hub of K-Culture that promotes mental health in the Gangnam area of Seoul while modernizing and disseminating Korea's traditional meditation culture to the world. For modern individuals seeking peace of mind in the busy city, the Gangnam Healing Center is becoming a necessity rather than a choice.

In a modern society where stress has become a part of daily life, the emergence of the Gangnam Healing Center goes beyond merely expanding relaxation spaces; it presents a new paradigm for improving quality of life. How about experiencing true healing of the mind in this special space that is within walking distance from Gangnam Station?
