Time to Become One With the Sunset at Bulgwangcheon’s “Riverside Vitality Meditation Music Concert”

Clear the mind with melodies spilling across the waves at Bulgwangcheon’s “Riverside Vitality Meditation Music Concert”

On an evening when the sunset settles down over the waterway, the Bulgwangcheon waterfront takes on music and meditation. On Saturday, June 27, the “Riverside Vitality Meditation Music Concert” will be held at the open plaza in front of Exit 3 of Eungam Station. As the week draws to a close and the city’s streams receive the day’s last light, it’s a chance to pass along both melodies and rest together.

A Riverside Stage Where Nature and Music Become One

The concert carries the slogan “A time when nature, music, and the mind become one.” The event runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the meditation music concert stage opens at 5 p.m. Bulgwangcheon, where the stage is set, is an ecological stream that originates from Samgaksan’s Bibong and runs through Eunpyeong-gu; the waterway becomes visible from around the area near Eungam Station’s Sinseosa-ggeori intersection. As Seoul City continues its riverside vitality project to shape urban waterfronts as places for citizens’ leisure, the broad plaza by the stream has taken root as a setting where performances and relaxation blend.

Seven Stages, Including the Handpan, Singing Bowl, and a Soprano

The meditation music concert is made up of seven teams. Performer Lee Ji-eun, playing the handpan, and one accompanying partner open the program with warm waves rising from a round metal instrument. E-ro, a Joseon New Contemporary dream pop band, performs five pieces that weave Korean traditional music with pop. The pop segment is prepared in four or five songs by Jae-bin Band, and performer Han Mina, who plays the electric violin, adds resonance to the strings. Soprano Jeong Yu-mi sings four songs, adding depth to the vocal art. The musical actor group Dequnst unfolds stories onstage, and Park Kyung-hae’s singing bowl meditation settles the audience’s breathing, closing out the concert.

An Afternoon Set in Motion With Traditional Culture Experiences

Before the main stage opens, traditional culture experience programs are scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Before the concert begins, organizers set out to let visitors first meet the atmosphere of the riverside through hands-on touching and feeling it with the body. Daytime experiences and evening performances flow naturally into one another, completing the arc of the day.
