Family Month, Healing Travel Destinations in Gwangyang

Art·Culture·Nature Converged Wellness Tourism Attraction Gaining Attention in Jeollanam-do Gwangyang

As May, the month of family, approaches, Jeollanam-do Gwangyang is emerging as a new alternative for those seeking special travel destinations to enjoy with loved ones. Recently, Gwangyang City has captivated visitors with a variety of tourism courses that blend nature, culture, and art.

Gwangyang's Cultural Attractions Filled with the Scent of Art

Recently, Gwangyang has been recognized as a new center of art in the southern region, with various cultural and artistic spaces being developed. In particular, the Jeollanam-do Provincial Art Museum is offering free admission throughout May to welcome visitors. Currently, exhibitions such as 'Mirror & Metaphor' by world-renowned artist Larry Pittman, the solo exhibition 'Camellia, The Face of Time' by Kang Jong-yeol, and the youth artist exhibition 'When Knocking on the Door of the Missing' are being held.

Located near the Jeollanam-do Provincial Art Museum, the Gwangyang Art Warehouse is a multi-cultural space that breathes new life into a historical site. With a cozy exhibition space and various cultural and artistic programs, it has become a favorite among art enthusiasts.

The POSCO Promotion Center, which opened in April, is establishing itself as a new landmark in Gwangyang. Inside the promotion center, the POSCO Art Museum is currently holding a commemorative exhibition of its collection under the theme 'Journey of Light', featuring works organized around two themes: inner light and natural light.

The Gwangyang Culture and Arts Center is hosting a unique exhibition titled 'Modern Artists Loved by Bearded Yoon Sang' for free until May 6. This is a valuable opportunity to compare and appreciate the works of ten modern artists who participated in Yoon Sang's calligraphy album.

Insuri Park, popular among the MZ generation, is a multi-cultural space where visitors can enjoy exhibitions, accommodations, cafes, and art shops all in one place. In particular, the exhibition space called 'Band-Aid', which repurposes an old grain warehouse, features works from master painter Kim Jong-hak, as well as Eva Elmerston, Lee Wal-jong, and the cheerful artist Gap-Pao, in the exhibition 'Cheerful Spring', which has received positive responses from visitors.

A Healing Time in Nature at Baegunsan

Along with cultural and artistic spaces in the city, Gwangyang also boasts rich attractions as a wellness tourism destination. The Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, located at the foot of Baegunsan Mountain at an altitude of 1,222m, is equipped with various facilities for healing both body and mind.

The 'Healing Forest' offers special forest therapy programs twice a day at 10 AM and 2:30 PM, each lasting two hours. Visitors can enjoy various healing experiences, including forest bathing and foot baths, as well as indoor activities like aromatherapy and meditation yoga.

The Wood Culture Experience Center is a space where visitors can rediscover the value of wood, offering woodworking experiences at different levels, including Camellia Workshop, Plum Blossom Workshop, and Baegun Workshop. In particular, the 'Wood Imagination Playground' for children provides a nature-friendly play experience for kids.

The Baegunsan Forest Museum is a space for recognizing and educating about the importance of forests in the era of climate change, open for viewing from 9 AM to 6 PM. It operates normally even during holidays, making it a great choice for family visitors.

All-Weather Tourist Destination Enjoyed Year-Round

The Gwangyang Wine Cave and Gwangyang Eco Park are all-weather multi-cultural spaces that operate 365 days a year, allowing the whole family to enjoy together. In May, in celebration of 'Jeollanam-do Visit Month', a special '1+1 Admission Ticket' event is also underway. Visitors wishing to participate in the event can install the 'Jeollanam-do Tourism' app and select 'Gwangyang City' in the 'Blue Tour' tab.

The Charm of Gwangyang Travel Where Nature and Culture Come Together

"In May, when the greenery deepens, Gwangyang is a perfect healing travel destination where the beautiful nature of Baegunsan, the Seomjin River, and Gwangyang Bay harmonize with diverse cultural and artistic spaces." Kim Mi-ran, head of the Gwangyang City Tourism Department, stated, "I hope you spend a more special Family Month through a Gwangyang trip where you can experience challenge, adventure, and healing at the same time." Gwangyang, with its lush nature of Baegunsan, the clear waters of the Seomjin River, and diverse cultural and artistic spaces, is the ideal place to recharge away from the weary daily life.
