The Essence of Nepalese Cultural Experience Unfolding in Ansan Multicultural Food Street
Nepalese Gourmet Salon Held Over 8 Sessions, From Singing Bowl Experience to Culinary Delights
Sometimes, there are magical moments when you can experience the tastes and aromas of the world without traveling far. The 'Nepalese Gourmet Talk Salon', hosted by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization from September 14 to 28 on weekends at Ansan Wongok-dong Multicultural Food Street, offers such a special opportunity.
Taste of Everest's Hometown, Encountered in Ansan
When you get off at Ansan Station on Subway Line 4 and exit through Gate 2, the Wongok-dong Multicultural Street unfolds before you. This place creates an illusion of traveling through various Asian countries all at once. With over 90 Asian restaurants from China, Russia, Vietnam, India, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and more, a special time to fully experience the deep flavors and culture of Nepal begins here.
Small Gatherings, Big Impressions – In-Depth Experiences in Small Groups
This program, conducted over 8 sessions, operates in small groups of 6 to 10 people for 3 hours each, providing a more immersive experience. It promises to be a time to genuinely explore the life and culture of Nepal beyond simple food tasting.
Main Program Components:
Nepal Trivia Quiz & Singing Bowl Experience: Experience the mystical sounds of the singing bowl, a traditional Tibetan meditation tool.
Talk Salon: Engage in lively discussions about Nepal's travel, cuisine, and culture.
Gourmet Salon: A special culinary experience tasting 3 representative dishes from Nepal.
Authentic Nepalese Journey with Experts
The program will be led by Nepalese representative Sujan Shakya, who appeared on JTBC's 'Abnormal Summit', and Kim Seom-joo, a trekking influencer specializing in the Nepal Himalayas. The time spent with local experts sharing their vivid experiences is expected to provide a deep understanding of Nepalese culture beyond mere tourism.
Premium Experience at a Reasonable Price
The participation fee is 30,000 won per person, which includes the traditional Nepalese colorful flag 'Tarcho', singing bowl, and food tasting costs. This is a well-rounded package that goes beyond just tasting food, allowing participants to take home traditional Nepalese cultural items.
Rediscovering the Charm of Ansan Wongok-dong, a Treasure Trove of Multiculturalism
The Ansan Multicultural Food Street is a famous tourist spot with an exotic atmosphere that feels like being abroad, and it was selected for the '2025 Gyeonggi Province Hidden Tourism Theme Alley' project this year.
Currently, over 200 restaurants are in operation here, and the Ansan City Foreign Resident Support Center employs local chefs through a local chef recommendation system to provide authentic flavors. This means you can taste genuine local food without boarding a plane.
New Tourism Trend, Leading the Local Cultural Experience
This program has been newly structured by adding local cultural experiences and local expert talk concerts to the existing gourmet tour. It is a true cultural experience where food, culture, people, and stories intertwine, not just a simple food tour.
Participants can experience the vividness of enjoying a Nepalese trip as if they were in the local area. The moment the scent of spices tickles the nose and the lively stories of locals seep into the ears, one may feel as if they are standing in an alley in Kathmandu rather than Ansan.
In the Global Era, Encountering World Cultures Locally
Wongok-dong Multicultural Street has naturally emerged as a space since the late 1990s when foreign migrant workers formed collective residences. It has established itself as a representative multicultural village where locals, legal immigrants, and irregular residents live together.
Here, Korean-Chinese compatriots, Chinese, Vietnamese, Bangladeshis, Indonesians, Thais, Filipinos, Sri Lankans, Nepalese, and Uzbeks live together. Therefore, it is said that backpackers who have traveled through Asia often return to find the food they enjoyed locally.
Application and Inquiries
Applications can be submitted through an online survey by scanning the QR code on the poster, and for detailed inquiries about the program, you can email the organizing Cultural World Link Cooperative.
A representative from the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization stated, "This program is designed to allow participants to experience the foods and cultures of various countries in the unique atmosphere of the multicultural food street," and added, "We hope many people will join and enjoy the special charm of the Nepalese Gourmet Talk Salon and create precious memories."
A Special Weekend Where Taste Meets Culture
The Nepalese Gourmet Talk Salon is a meaningful time that goes beyond simple food experiences, offering a glimpse into the present and future of multicultural society in South Korea. Through the deep flavors and aromas of Nepalese food grown under the Himalayas, and the stories of the people within, we can embrace a broader world.
On weekend afternoons, just stepping off at Ansan Station and heading to the multicultural street marks the beginning of a special journey. Let’s enjoy new cultural experiences in a place where the tastes and aromas of Nepal, along with warm encounters with people, await.
