Healing the Wounds Imprinted on the Body - Somatic Psychology 10-Hour Intensive Course Now Open

Have you ever felt that after a certain event, you’ve had ongoing pain somewhere in your body?

If the wounds lodged in your mind can’t be healed in time, they don’t simply disappear. They remain in our body and create a certain flow.

If your right shoulder is always tense, if your chest tightens for no reason in certain postures, or if the event is long past but your body still remembers that sensation—then it may not be just a matter of body shape or habits.

In Somatic Psychology, this phenomenon is called the “Wound Vortex.” Without even realizing it, you may form the shape of your body, shape your movement habits, and even trap yourself by becoming a rigid “mask” that functions like a protective shield.

It means that psychological trauma that wasn’t resolved in time is imprinted in body tissues, fascia, and the autonomic nervous system—shaping your body’s form and your movement pattern. According to international research on somatic psychotherapy, trauma typically shows up first at the level of bodily sensation, before any cognitive awareness. In other words, your body knows about the wound before your mind does.

This two-day intensive workshop—〈From Wounds to Blossoms: A Somatic Psychology Integration Healing Journey〉—is designed to read the language of the body and transform the energy of wounds into the fragrance of life.

What Is Somatic Psychology?

Somatic Psychology is a branch of psychology that clinically studies the mutual influence between the body (Body) and the psyche (Psyche).

Originating from Wilhelm Reich’s Body Armoring theory, it has developed further through Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing® and Ron Kurtz’s Hakomi Method, among others.

The core premise is simple: psychological trauma is stored not only in the brain, but also in muscles, fascia, and the autonomic nervous system. Therefore, true healing can’t be completed with verbal insight alone—it deepens when you approach it through the body as well. Professor Jo Ok-kyung, who has systematically researched this field and applied it to clinical practice in Korea, is the instructor of this workshop.

Chair, Korea Association for Somatic Psychology Education (KASP)

Former Professor, Seoul Buddhist Graduate University

Former Visiting Professor, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea

Former Chair, Korea Meditation Society

Former Chair, Korea Yoga Association

Former Vice Chair, Korean Association of Mind-Body Medicine

Professor Jo Ok-kyung is a leading authority in domestic somatic psychology, studying integrated healing and growth of the body-mind-soul, and applying it continuously in both educational settings and clinical practice.

Her lectures go beyond simply delivering theory; through Body Reading practical sessions where participants learn to read their own bodies directly, and 1:1 case demonstrations, she guides participants toward experiential understanding.

Curriculum | 2-Day, 10-Hour Intensive Course

DAY 1 (Saturday, May 16 | 13:00–17:00)

Lesson 1. What Is Somatic Psychology?

Learn the theoretical background and clinical significance of somatic psychology—how the body stores psychological trauma, the concept of Body Armoring, and the healing principles behind somatic approaches.

Lesson 2. Five Body Types and Wounds

Explore unconscious trauma expressed through body shape and patterns of muscle tension.

Understand specifically how your body has carried certain wounds in certain ways through the five body-type classification system.

DAY 2 (Sunday, May 17 | 10:00–17:30)

Lesson 3. Turn Wounds into Soul Blossoms

A healing method that elevates the energy of wounds into the fragrance of life.

A practice-centered time to look at your mask without blame and meet the unique self hidden behind it.

Lesson 4. Understanding Somatic Psychology Through Cases

Confirm what you learned in real terms through 1:1 case demonstrations.

Professionals and enrolled participants will gain observation points they can apply right away in clinical settings.

Recommended for professionals such as psychotherapists, yoga instructors, somatic experts, meditators, and healers who want to apply somatic psychology and insights from Body Reading to their own fields—as well as for anyone interested in somatic psychology, which reads the unconscious through the body. Also for those who are simply curious about chronic muscle tension or repeated body patterns, for which they can’t find a clear reason.

In this lecture, you’ll be able to gain deep insights into the foundational competencies of Body Reading, the system for classifying five body types, understanding the Wound Vortex—insight into the roots of your repeated patterns from a somatic psychology perspective—and hands-on experience with integrated healing practices.

Wounds didn’t make us weak. Rather, they are records of courage our body engraved—proof of how much we’ve been able to endure.

“The energy of a wound doesn’t disappear. It’s simply sleeping inside you as a flower that hasn’t bloomed yet.”

Let’s listen to what your body has to say. Within it, your unique fragrance is waiting to bloom.
