Recently, there have been many efforts to incorporate meditation into art—aiming to reach people more easily and more deeply.
You don’t necessarily have to sit in a full or cross-legged posture, close your eyes, and enter deep meditation. There are many ways to feel this moment with your whole body. Tears may well up at the sound of a single violin melody, or something you have held onto for a long time in the fingertips while kneading clay may slowly begin to loosen. It isn’t healing, and it isn’t a technique—it’s simply feeling “this moment” with your entire body. In April, welcoming spring, the Korean MBSR Association (a registered nonprofit) prepares a place that opens wide the door to those sensations.
A Place Where Art Meets Meditation
Korean MBSR Association, 1st Regular Meeting of 2026
Date: Sunday, April 19, 2026 Location: Sookmyung Women’s University College of Music (Seoul) Theme: Mindfulness and Art — A Meeting of Art and Meditation
The Korean MBSR Association’s 1st regular meeting of 2026 will be held on April 19 at the Sookmyung Women’s University College of Music. Centered on the theme “Mindfulness and Art,” the event is a hands-on experience that connects three artistic fields—music, visual art, and physical movement—with mindful practice. This is not a lecture-style event where you simply listen; it’s a place where you directly experience and feel. Participants can choose their own programs according to their interests and senses, and spend that day entirely with “themselves.”
Mindfulness Arrives in Three Arts, Three Ways
Mindfulness Music — Opening the Present with Sound
First, there is an opening program shared by all participants. In “Breathing and Imagery Experiences with Music,” led by No In-gyu of the On Dam Arts Psychology Counseling Research Institute, live performances of violin and a synthesizer fill the space. This is not a time to merely listen to the performance; it’s a period of breathing along with the sound and following inner imagery from within.
The mindfulness music session continues after lunch and is divided into two tracks. Sim Gyo-rin guides a time to focus attention on the present moment and to embrace experience through music. Professor Sim Gyo-rin is an expert who is both a co-author of “Introduction to Meditation Science” and a research professor at Incheon Catholic University. She is also a specialist who has trained art-therapy professionals. Jang Moon-jung is likewise a meditation expert, serving as a T-level meditation instructor and working as a music therapist at Myeongji Hospital; she will lead participants in a session where feelings of love and compassion are shared through music.
Mindfulness Visual Art — Awareness Begins at the Fingertips
A session focused entirely on the tactile sensation of working with clay (Kim Min-kyung) offers the experience of setting thoughts down and returning to the senses. In a program called “Blooming with Light” (Kim Soo-in), you can unfold inner awareness visually through color and lines. Without the pressure of having to draw well, it’s a time to follow your own inner world in the exact direction where the color spreads.
Mindfulness Movement — Meditation Remembered by the Body
“Active Meditation Based on Physical Movement,” led by Nam Hee-kyung, is a sensory exploration of noticing subtle movements of the body. “Flow from Stillness,” by Shin Su-rin, is a movement art that awakens senses that have been frozen for a long time and liberates the body—a journey to discover flow within quietness.

Participant Information and How to Apply
This regular meeting is officially recognized as 7 hours of training by the Korean MBSR Association.

A Sense of Recovery to Carry Back into Everyday Life
On a spring afternoon, music flows, warmth from the clay lingers in your fingertips, and your body quietly finds its own flow. This regular meeting of the Korean MBSR Association is not simply an academic gathering. It’s a “hands-on experience” where you directly experience mindfulness through the language of art, and leave with small tools you can use to recover yourself when you return to daily life.
If you want to reclaim the self-sense you lost through various art media and gift yourself a spring day when you return to “yourself” again with a calm, steady mind, this place will be the starting point.
