South Korea’s First Meditation Music Band, Mago Sound, to Hold “Silent Soulmove” on May 9

The moment you put on headphones, the outside world goes silent. Yet strangely, within that quiet, something begins to sound even clearer. The metallic resonance of the handpan starts tapping at the center of your chest, and the vocal vibrations feel as if they spread from inside your throat. It’s not sound you just hear with your ears—it’s sound you take in with your whole body. The music created by Mago Sound aims for exactly that kind of experience.

Korea’s First Mantra Music Band, Mago Sound

Mago Sound is a meditation music band formed with yoga and meditation expert Mago as its core. It is a creative collective that brings together the energy of meditation, music, and healing into one. Woven delicately from Eastern traditional philosophy and the sensibilities of Western music, they create sound designed to guide listeners to fully stay in this very moment.

In short, their music is “mantra music.” Mantra means “the tool (tra) of the mind (Man)” in Sanskrit, and it’s easy to understand as functional music that looks at, notices, and heals one’s state of mind. Rather than being confined to the language or forms of any particular religion, it’s a genre that is evolving into a way of expressing, through music, prayers and phrases containing good intentions from around the world.

Mago Sound is the team practicing this current the earliest in Korea. One of their representative tracks, “He Yama yo,” is in the language of the Lakota people of North America and carries the meaning “to be here now (to exist).” You can find it on major streaming platforms like Melon, Apple Music, and Bugs Music by searching with the previous name, “Sham.”

A Place Where Sound, Movement, and Intention Meet — Silent Performance

One of the key elements of Mago Sound’s activities is the silent performance. Audience members put on wireless headphones and enter the music—composed and produced directly by Mago Sound—while being completely separated from outside noise.

Sounds intricately mixed from Tibetan singing bowls, handpans, vocals, the wind and water, and birdsong flow in each one’s own rhythm. The lighting changes delicately to match the cadence of breathing, and sometimes even silence itself becomes the deepest sensory space.

This isn’t just a place to quietly enjoy music. The performance expands into voice-work and mindful movement sessions. Participants open up the resonance inside themselves to the outside through their own voice and breath, then naturally move their bodies along with the vibrations of the sound to release emotions and energy that have been held rigid. Built on principles drawn from yoga, free movement, and contemporary bodywork, these sessions are living meditations in which movement itself becomes a kind of sound.

They also presented this type of performance at the 2023 Summer Gokseong Dance Meditation Festival, and they continue collaborating with yoga instructors, meditation teachers, and healing artists both in Korea and abroad, steadily deepening their artistic range.

May 9: “Silent Soulmove” at Yeonnam-dong

On May 9 (Saturday) at noon (12:00 PM), Mago Sound’s Silent Soulmove performance will take place at Yeonnam-dong in Mapo-gu, Seoul. This stage, which will mark the final day of the 2026 Yeonhui Yoga Week, is where the finale of the yoga and meditation festival—held across the Yeonhi-dong area for about three weeks—will be completed with sound.

Yeonhui Yoga Week is an urban wellness festival made up of yoga studios and spaces in the Yeonhui-dong and Yeonnam-dong areas coming together. This year, from April 20 to May 9, over three weeks, they are offering a variety of yoga classes, sound healing, and meditation programs.

Yeonnam-dong, the venue for the performance, is a 감성 culture space in Yeonnam-dong, and its open layout and distinctive atmosphere pair especially well with sound meditation performances.

What Exists in “Right Here, Right Now”—That Very Presence Is Mago Sound’s Music

Mago Sound’s music is closer to a “living experience” than to “well-made content.” Even the space’s vibrations, the participants’ breathing, and the silence in that moment become part of the performance—so that the audience becomes more than a passive listener; they become a presence that resonates with sound.

In that instant when you put on headphones and close your eyes, Mago Sound quietly asks, “Where is your mind right now?”
