Korea’s only bell museum opened the night.
Healing meditation with gentle seated-bell sounds begins in Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do.
A place where a thousand years of resonance becomes meditation, Jincheon Jong Museum
Inside Jincheon History Theme Park, which embraces Baekgok Lake, there is a building with a distinctive exterior reminiscent of a bell. It is none other than Jincheon Jong Museum, the nation’s only bell museum.
Opened in 2005, this place holds, in full, the history and scientific secrets of Korean bells (beomjong) from Unified Silla through the Joseon Dynasty. Korean bells are an original work of art recognized worldwide—so much so that they even have the academic name “Korean Bell.” The bell’s sound has been called “a sound that awakens the soul, a resonance that brightens the world.”
And now, that resonance leads into meditation.
Moonlight Lounge — Culture Day on Nights When the Museum Embraces the Moonlight
In the first half of 2026, Jincheon Jong Museum will operate the monthly late-night special program ‘Moonlight Lounge’ on the last Wednesday of every month as part of “Culture Day (a Korean public cultural program).” Designed so that people worn down by everyday life can truly experience real rest in a special space like a museum, the program runs in a total of three sessions.
Session 1: Wednesday, April 29, 2026
Session 2: Wednesday, May 27, 2026
Session 3: Wednesday, June 24, 2026
On the day of operation, admission fees are fully waived, and the museum extends its hours until 8:00 PM at night. In addition, a storage area that is normally not open to the public will be specially accessible, offering a rare opportunity to directly see the collection items and the preservation environment.
Core Program — Seated-Bell Meditation Therapy
The true highlight of Moonlight Lounge is, without a doubt, ‘Seated-Bell Meditation Therapy’.
A seated bell (坐鐘) uses the same principle as a singing bowl. It is a meditation instrument that produces sound by striking it or rubbing along its rim. The gentle yet deep vibrations spread through the entire body like waves, helping release tension in both mind and body. If a Buddhist beomjong bell throws its sound toward the world, then a seated bell quietly taps inward, toward the self.
Seated-bell meditation experienced within the historical context of the Korean bells owned by Jincheon Jong Museum differs in character from that of any typical meditation center. That’s because it is meditation in a space where centuries-old casting techniques come alive—within a museum where the sound of the bell becomes art.

How the museum evolves into a ‘healing space’
Actually, this Moonlight Lounge is not just a simple event.
It is a symbolic effort showing a shift in which the museum moves beyond exhibitions and education to become a space for emotional stability and recovery.
Kim Ja-ran, the head of the Cultural Tourism Division of Jincheon County, said, “We hope that Moonlight Lounge becomes a cultural rest haven that provides emotional stability and relaxation,” adding that the county plans to further expand experience-based content and establish it as a representative cultural space for the region.
Based on its performance in the first half of the year, Jincheon County plans to continue the program in the second half as well.
