A day where you grab your smartphone hundreds of times and lean in toward every notification sound. At some point, digital devices became something we can’t easily set aside, even when we want to. In that familiar routine, we slowly wear ourselves out. Hongseong-gun Public Health Center offers a short “time to pause” for this exhausting everyday life.
A Fresh Take on the “10Up Project”: Add 10 Years to a Healthy Lifespan
As part of the “Healthy Lifespan Extension 10Up (Ten-Up) Project,” Hongseong-gun Public Health Center is recruiting participants for the “Digital Detox Meditation Class, Cohort 1.” The program is designed to ease stress brought on by excessive digital device use and to help participants build healthy daily habits.
This isn’t just a campaign to limit smartphone use. It’s a full healing program that blends local history and cultural experiences with meditation, so both your body and mind can rest together.
Walk the Hongjuseong Fortress Wall Path and Quiet Your Mind with the Sound of a Singing Bowl
The program runs for 90 minutes on Tuesday, April 7, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will take place around Hongjuseong Fortress—where the breath of history is still alive—and at the Hongju Cheonnyeon Cultural Experience Hall.
The program is divided into two sessions.
Session 1 — History & Cultural Exploration: With a cultural interpreter from the Hongju Cultural Tourism Foundation, you’ll take a slow walk around the Hongjuseong Fortress area. The time you spend walking along the fortress walls and listening to stories of this land becomes meditation in itself.
Session 2 — Singing Bowl Meditation Yoga Class: In the multipurpose room on the first basement floor of the Hongju Cheonnyeon Cultural Experience Hall, a meditation-yoga session will be conducted using singing bowls. As the bowls’ distinctive sound and vibrations spread through the air, they help release tension stored in the mind and body—quietly awakening every part of your entire self.
Open to Anyone Living in Hongseong-gun—Apply by March 27
The program is open to anyone who lives in Hongseong-gun. To apply, call the Hongseong-gun Public Health Center’s Health Promotion Team (☎ 041-630-9554) by Friday, March 27.
Jeong Yeong-rim, head of the Hongseong-gun Public Health Center, said, “In today’s society, where using digital devices has become everyday life, we hope this offers a chance to restore balance between your body and mind—by taking a moment to put your phone down and experience meditation and rest.”
The health center also plans to review the possibility of expanding the digital detox program on a regular basis in the future, based on the results of operating Cohort 1.
Springtime in a Thousand-Year-Old City—Find Your Own “Comma for Rest”
In April, when the spring sunshine gently embraces the stone walls of Hongjuseong Fortress, why not turn notifications off for a moment, tuck your smartphone away, and feel the earth’s texture under your feet? As the singing bowl’s sound cuts through the air and spreads outward, the digital noise we’ve built up within also settles down quietly.
We hope this small “comma for rest,” prepared by the Hongseong-gun Public Health Center, becomes a time for anyone living a tiring daily life to rediscover their true self.
