Gwangmyeong Cave is breaking away from its existing focus on family-friendly walking tours and is transforming into an immersive healing space where visitors experience the cave’s stillness and darkness with all five senses. Gwangmyeong City Development Corporation (CEO Seo Il-dong) said it will fully roll out two new experiential contents from Aug. 1, using previously unreleased areas in the deep interior of the cave.

The project is part of the “Gwangmyeong Simdo (Depth): Extracting the Value of the Local Area from Deep Inside the Cave” initiative, which is being carried out after being selected for Gyeonggi Tourism Organization’s competition for the “2026 Gyeonggi Local Tourism Content Discovery and Support Program.”

1. Two major new programs announced

① Darkness Immersion Meditation (Immersion Meditation)

  • Features: This distinctive meditation program lets participants lie comfortably on beanbags inside an unreleased tunnel where outside noise and mobile phone notifications are completely blocked, and listen for about 30 minutes to the gentle light and electronic music flowing along the cave’s rock walls, along with the cave’s own resonation.

  • How it operates: Without any forced breathing techniques or meditation rules, participants can enjoy the immersion in a freeform way—such as closing their eyes and focusing on sound or resting comfortably. To maximize a private setting, the capacity per session is strictly limited to 10 people.

  • Operating schedule: Aug. 1 (Sat) through Aug. 30 (Sun) (Closed every Monday / 5 sessions per day)

  • Target audience and reservations: Adults aged 19 and older (pre-booking via the experience and leisure platform “FRIP”)

② Darkness Stage (Darkness Stage)

  • Features: A listening program that asks participants to let go of visual information in complete darkness and focus solely on the cave’s echoes and music.

  • Signature element: Along with the listening sessions, a talk time is held where hosts from various fields—including musicians, creators, and designers—participate directly in each session. They share playlists shaped by their own tastes and then freely interact with participants after the listening.

  • Operating schedule: Aug. 21-23 and Aug. 28-30 (total of 6 days / 5 sessions per day, with 50 people limited per session)
