Healing News Hosts ‘Healing Meditation Ritual Concert’: A Review

On the evening of Aug. 27, Healing News held its first meditation music event, the 'Healing Meditation Ritual Concert,' at K-Mirae Clinic in a forest in Gonjiam, Docheok-myeon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi province.  The program began with a health lecture by K-Mirae Clinic director Jo Byung-sik and continued with an organic vegetarian dinner, a walk through the forest, and a singing bowl and storytelling piano concert. It was a day spent learning about health, eating healthy food, walking and listening—a time that nourished body and soul.  Patients at K-Mirae Clinic, their families and other attendees all left moved by the experience.

A packed lecture hall explores longevity and healthy living

The event opened with a special lecture by Jo Byung-sik, director of K-Mirae Clinic. Its theme was 'Regenerate cells, and disease can be cured.' The lecture hall was filled to capacity, and for more than an hour, almost no one shifted in their seat. The audience's intense concentration showed just how hungry people are for accurate information about the body.

People today are living longer, but they are spending more time in poor health. The lecture compared chronic disease prevalence rates in 2012 and 2023. Obesity rose from 32.4% to 37.2%, while diabetes increased from 8% to 9.4%. Hypertension showed little change, moving from 22% to 20.0%, but hyperlipidemia nearly doubled, rising from 11~12% to 20.9%. Diagnoses of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia have also increased among younger people in their 20s and 30s, the lecture noted, bringing more of them to K-Mirae Clinic.

That news was particularly shocking because most people who seek treatment at K-Mirae Clinic have at least severe illnesses, yet the clinic is now seeing visitors from the 20s-and-30s generation.

Cell regeneration can transform the entire body

The lecture centered on cells. Jo explained that the body has a multilayered recovery system involving immunity, inflammation control, regeneration and metabolic regulation. Cell regeneration, he said, serves as the system's repair engine, replacing damaged cells with new ones and restoring the structure and function of tissue.

From technology-centered to environment-centered: The five pillars of K-Regenerative Medicine

Jo presented his vision of K-Regenerative Medicine in contrast with conventional regenerative medicine. The technology-centered approach supplements and rebuilds cells and tissue from outside the body using stem cells, tissue engineering and biomaterials. K-Regenerative Medicine, by contrast, takes an environment-centered approach that activates the body's natural healing systems.

He organized its methods around five pillars: sulfur-ion pharmacopuncture and light-based Primo Therapy; K-Breathing and cellular supplements; K-Plants and herbal medicine, which use phytochemicals to regulate epigenetic switches; Hansik and K-Exercise, combining brown-rice vegetarian meals with energy training; and K-Meditation and sleep practices, which normalize the autonomic nervous system and hormones through stillness and deep sleep. As someone building a media outlet devoted to meditation, I was glad to see meditation presented not as an appendix but as one of the five pillars.

Jo Byung-sik has practiced meditation and Gukseondo for many years and also teaches meditation directly to his patients.

From field to table: An organic vegetarian dinner and a sunset forest walk

After the lecture, attendees moved to a dining hall, where K-Mirae Clinic had prepared an organic vegetarian buffet using vegetables grown in its own fields. Some might assume vegetarian food lacks flavor, but the organically grown vegetables, picked straight from the field, carried a palpable vitality of their own. The abundant meal, made with vegetables prepared in a variety of ways, showcased the fresh, vivid taste of the produce. Everyone enjoyed a satisfying and convivial dinner.

A walk through the forest followed the meal. Small groups strolled along the clinic grounds, surrounded by a 25,000-pyeong forest, taking in the scent of the trees. Even without calling it walking meditation, the experience brought everyone a deep sense of peace.

A sublime pairing of singing bowl meditation and storytelling piano

After the walk, attendees gathered in the cafe. At pianist Shin Eun-kyung's special request, the program began with a session of singing bowl sound healing to settle the breath. As the audience regulated its breathing and listened to the crystal singing bowls, everyone's energy seemed to converge.

Shin Eun-kyung's storytelling piano concert followed in that state. Listening to a performance in meditation is profoundly different from simply listening to music. With the audience's energy already unified through singing bowl meditation, Shin's narration and playing had an even greater emotional impact.

A performance about the body, between calm and passion

The theme of the story Shin Eun-kyung told was the body. Accompanied by a range of piano pieces, it traced the journey from the cells formed inside a mother's body to their gradual growth and emergence into the world. The story unfolded, with music layered over it. At times tranquil and at times impassioned, the piano melodies followed the contours of the narrative and seemed to flow naturally through our bodies.

I had not expected the combination of singing bowls and classical music to be so moving. As piano melodies flowed through the space created by the crystal bowls' long vibrations, they seemed to resonate and vibrate even more distinctly through our bodies, filling the room.  Because the entire audience remained focused and enjoyed the performance through the end, the emotion grew as it passed between stage and seats.

Awakening the doctor within

The day moved through a sequence of understanding the body, taking nourishment into it, moving it and listening through it. The lecture began with the premise that the body can heal itself. Everyone has a doctor within, and awakening that doctor was connected to what we ate, how far we walked and the singing bowl vibrations and piano melodies we experienced that day.

The healing meditation ritual concert ended with every attendee carrying home a sense of being moved. Healing News and K-Mirae Clinic pledged to continue holding a range of events together in the future.

Healing News organized the event, which was sponsored by K-Mirae Clinic.
