Actress and Meditation Teacher Moonsook’s Online Course “Gate of Wisdom” Opens

Have you ever set your phone down near the end of the day and closed your eyes for a moment? Even so, the things you couldn’t finish and tomorrow’s worries continue to swirl noisily in your head. It’s as if, somewhere inside, there was deep, quiet stillness—but when exactly did you forget that place?

Six gatherings are now being held to bring that forgotten stillness back. An online course guided by Moonsook—who has lived as an actress and a meditation teacher, as well as a natural healing specialist—will open the Gate of Wisdom: Awakening the Calm and Joy Within. The course runs from June 27, 2026, through November, with sessions every fourth Saturday of the month in the evening via ZOOM.

Opening a New Door From Actress to Yogic Guide and Meditation Teacher

Moonsook was an actress who lit up the screens in the 1970s. She was recognized for her breakout newcomer awards for films 〈The Sunlike Girl〉 and 〈The Road to Sampo〉, but after suddenly losing the director Lee Man-hee, whom she loved, she moved to the United States.

Life in a foreign land became a continuous series of learning. At Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida, she majored in Western painting and received the dean’s award—the highest honor for fine arts—and while she was actively working as a painter, she went through pain of body and mind and became deeply absorbed in yoga and meditation. She studied healing foods at the Natural Healing Institute in Manhattan, New York, and at the main center for Oriental nutrition studies in Connecticut, and then continued her life in harmony with nature on Maui Island in Hawaii.

When she returned to the screen after 40 years with the 2015 film 〈Inside Out〉, her name again reached a new generation through her undyed gray hair and unadorned elegance. She released 〈Moonsook’s Natural Diet〉 〈Moonsook’s Natural Healing〉 〈There Is No Greatness〉 and 〈There Is Only Great Love〉. In 2020, she opened the YouTube channel “Day by Day Moonsook,” where she shares stories about a vegetarian and mindful life. She currently stays in Florida, United States, and continues her work through writing and drawing, along with teaching yoga and meditation.

Although she has held multiple identities—actress, painter, writer, yoga leader—the question she asks every morning in front of the mirror is simple. When I’ve set aside both my clothes and the names people call me, who am I then? The perspective of a seeker who has lived holding onto that question is reflected in this course.

From Stillness to Joy, Six Journeys

This course starts through the closest gateway—“the body”—and guides you all the way to the deepest place in your mind. It’s not abstract comfort. It’s a structure where you walk together down a concrete path of noticing, moment by moment.

Session 1: June 27 Stillness and Awareness

Session 2: July 25 Becoming Aware of the Body

Session 3: August 22 What You Bring Into the Body

Session 4: September 19 The Breath That Freely Enters and Leaves the Body

Session 5: October 24 Watching the Restless Mind From Within the Body

Session 6: November 28 Stillness and Joy

The September session will take place on the third Saturday rather than the fourth, due to the Chuseok holiday period. From the first segment, “Awareness,” to the final segment, “Joy,” the flow that re-aligns your scattered body and mind into stillness is laid out like a single journey.

What It Means to Align Body and Mind to the Frequency of Stillness

The focal questions Moonsook offers are clear. Thought is not me, and the emotions that rise and fall are not me either. I am not sick, and I am not sad. When the body and mind become still, “awareness” that is revealed—this, she says, is pure joy.

In her book 〈There Is No Greatness〉, she wrote that reaching ultimate freedom requires a process of change in which the ego awareness of “me” ends. When complete stillness forms from the central nervous system to the peripheral nervous system, she says, we become pure light not trapped by boundaries.

The course doesn’t end with one-way instruction. Through a question-and-answer session, you address problems of everyday life together, and you look for a path together that leads you to spend more and more time with the energy of stillness, peace, and joy by raising each person’s own vibration. It is also an opportunity to share, in depth, the stories of mind training that each person hasn’t fully been able to explain through books or public lectures so far due to their own limitations.
