Many people buy singing bowls but leave them unused as mere decorations. They often regret impulsively buying without knowing what to choose, or they mimic what they see on YouTube but are unsure if the sound is correct. A program that directly addresses this frustration will open at the end of February in Sanbon, Gyeonggi.

『Singing Bowl Utilization Guide』 Author Will Teach Directly

The 'Breath and Singing Bowl Level 5' workshop class, co-hosted by Bonus Yoga, Yoga Conference, and the Wellness Arts Healing Association, will take place on February 28, 2026 (Saturday) from 2 PM to 6 PM for four hours. The location is Bonus Yoga, just a 1-minute walk from Exit 3 of Sanbon Station on Line 4.

The key to this class is 'direct teaching by the author.' Instructor Seok Ji-hye is the author of 『Singing Bowl Utilization Guide (Basic Theory)』 and 『Singing Bowl Utilization Guide (Practical Preparation Step 1)』, and is currently a professor teaching singing bowl instructor courses at Myongji University Future Education Center. She holds four bachelor's degrees in psychology, music, social welfare, and yoga meditation, as well as a master's degree in postmodern studies from Kyung Hee University and is pursuing a doctorate in applied arts at Kyung Hee University. As an expert with both theoretical and clinical knowledge, this session will provide insights directly from the book, making it different from simple experiential classes.

Curriculum — From Selection to Sound Bath Completed in One Day

This Level 5 class is designed so that even those new to singing bowls can acquire practical skills in just one day.

The first key is a selection method for singing bowls that is not taught anywhere else. Based on three criteria: depth of resonance, layers of harmonics, and the tail end of reverberation, participants will develop the ability to choose without failure. While there are various products available ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of won, a singing bowl chosen without criteria may be closer to a decorative item than a healing tool.

Next, basic techniques for singing bowls and sound bath practice will be conducted. This will be a time to experience the actual relaxation effects of sound baths and learn how to maximize the bowl's vibrations through correct playing methods. Notably, this class will utilize a medical brainwave measurement device worth approximately 8 million won to directly check participants' brainwave changes before and after the sound bath, allowing them to experience relaxation effects in numerical terms rather than just feelings. Such a program is rare even in Korea.

Finally, the class will cover singing bowl breath meditation and various breathing techniques. Participants will understand the principles of yogic breathing, musical breathing, and practical breathing, and learn how to combine these with singing bowl performance. The realization that the performer's breath becomes the depth of sound will be fully experienced in this class.

The Life Message of Singing Bowls — The Beauty of Imperfection

The sound of singing bowls carries a decisive reason: it embodies 'the imperfection of nature.' The wildness of irrational harmonics within the order of rational multiples, along with the rhythm of breath created by humans, guides us to comfort. The fact that it resonates more deeply because it is not perfect may be why singing bowls continue to resonate even in this era after thousands of years.

Understanding the harmonics of singing bowls and learning to manage them through breath is not just about acquiring an instrument; it is a healing journey to find one's inner frequency. The vibrations of singing bowls help retune the rhythm of the human body, which has lost balance due to noise pollution or stress, allowing it to regain its unique vibrations. In this weary era, our bodies and minds may already be waiting for that sound.

Recommended For

The organizers particularly recommend this program for four groups: beginners who are about to purchase a singing bowl or have already bought one but are not using it properly, learners who want to systematically study the scientific principles of sound healing, office workers and trainees exhausted from shallow breathing and chronic fatigue, and instructors who want to enhance the quality of their curriculum as yoga/meditation teachers or sound therapy professionals.

All participants will receive a book by author Seok Ji-hye (valued at 36,000 won), and discounts will be applied for purchasing singing bowls on-site. A certificate will be issued upon completion of the course.

Trust Built Over 5 Sessions

This is the 5th session of 'Breath and Singing Bowl.' As a program that has filled its seats through word of mouth over the years, the number of participants is limited to the first 15 who sign up. Since it is operated on a small scale, ample time for questions and practice is guaranteed.

The resonance provided by the tool of the singing bowl becomes complete only when it is understood and handled correctly. Understanding sound, connecting it with breath, and learning how to relax within it — four hours in one day can be the starting point.
