The Himalayas. Just the name can make one's heart feel heavy. The weight of the endless snow, the sound of prayer wheels turning, the scent of cedar permeating the dawn air. In a place where all of this comes together, a journey unlike any other awaits.

From April 10 to 17, a 7-night, 8-day yoga retreat 'Himalayan Harmony: A Cultural & Yoga Pilgrimage' will take place centered around the mountain village of Ghandruk in the Annapurna region of Nepal. This program, hosted by yoga instructor Zahyan Shahani, who grew up in Kathmandu, is not just a simple yoga trip. It is a deeply personal and heartfelt invitation to share the true face of his beloved hometown with participants.

Into the Rhythm of the Himalayas — Program Overview

The journey of this retreat will follow the route from Kathmandu → Pokhara → Ghandruk → Pokhara → Kathmandu. In the village of Ghandruk, located at an altitude of 2,000m, participants will focus on yoga and meditation in the cool, clear air, with daytime temperatures ranging from 15 to 24°C and nighttime temperatures dropping to 5 to 10°C.

Every morning, Restorative Yoga unfolds as a time to open the body and mind to the energy of the high mountains. At the moment the sunlight spreads over the snow-capped peaks, participants will engage in Pranayama (breath practice) that resembles the air of the mountains. Zahyan says, "This practice is not about 'doing' something, but about 'unwinding' modern stress."

In the 'Soul Session', which leads to meditation, asana, and spiritual exploration, participants will encounter wisdom that has been rooted in the Himalayas for thousands of years. Respecting the traditions of those who have made these mountains their home, it is a journey toward each participant's 'inner summit.'

Walking the Sacred Sites of Kathmandu — Cultural Pilgrimage

Yoga is not everything. This retreat includes a cultural pilgrimage that allows participants to experience UNESCO World Heritage sites firsthand. Boudhanath Stupa, Kaal Bhairav Temple, and Pashupatinath Temple are places where centuries of prayers have smoothed the stone paths.

Zahyan expressed, "You will not just see the culture, but breathe it in." It is a time to experience the very heartbeat of Nepal, not just tourist attractions.

Why Himalayan Harmony is Special

Zahyan Shahani grew up in the vibrant valley of Kathmandu and has lived most of his life calling Nepal home. For him, the Himalayas are not just a backdrop. They are his history, his refuge, and his greatest teacher.

What he wants to convey through this retreat is that very sensation. Beyond the famous trekking routes, there exists the quiet daily life of Nepal, hidden valleys, and a deep tranquility that can only be felt at this altitude.

"If I can share this landscape that I love so much with you, it will be a true privilege." His words carry a heartfelt affection for his hometown, not commercial promotion.
