Suwon Geumgok-dong Simmi On Healing Center: 모집 (Recruiting) Students for the Basics of Breathing Meditation Course

Simmi On Healing Center, nestled in the foothills of Chilbosan in Suwon, is recruiting a new cohort of students for the Basics of Breathing Meditation course. Hosted by the World Meditation Association, this program guides you along the path of breathing that starts by releasing tension in the body through Hanbalume breathing and leads you into deep meditation.

Twenty Thousand Breaths a Day: The Life Rhythm You Forgot

A person breathes about twenty thousand times a day. Breathing is the most fundamental rhythm that sustains life, yet this course starts from the idea that with growth, our breathing has gradually deteriorated. Busy everyday life and chronic stress cause the muscles involved in breathing to tighten, keeping you trapped in shallow breaths. When the depth of your inhalation and exhalation decreases, the body’s tension doesn’t ease, and peace of mind keeps slipping farther away.

Hanbalume Breathing: Natural Breathing Where the Ribcage and Abdomen Move Together

Hanbalume breathing is a technique that restores the natural way your body originally breathes. Good breathing happens when the entire ribcage and the abdomen move together gently. With repeated practice, the breathing muscles relax, and shallow, rough breaths gradually transform into a more comfortable and abundant breath. This course not only helps restore physical well-being, but also calms the fluctuations of the mind, opening the way to deeper meditation.

Changes Over Four Weeks, Seen Through Student Feedback

In week one, many participants reported that even breathing out long through the mouth helped reduce distractions and loosened their bodies into a pleasantly weary relaxation. Some also shared that they could feel a sudden tingling sensation again in shoulders that had been painful, or that their hands and feet warmed up as their head and body felt lighter. In week two, experiences continued in which short inhalations that had lasted for a long time naturally became longer. In week three, one student said that even during a presentation where they read a long text in front of a group, their breathing remained stably steady all the way through—something that surprised them as well. In week four, feedback emerged that, for the first time, they encountered a sense of peace and vitality that was difficult to put into words amid quiet breathing.

They also reported accompanying reactions such as an itchy, tingling feeling, a chill that moved up and down over several days, and a return of pain in areas that had been quiet. The changes most commonly cited by students who completed the course were the restoration of physical vitality, improved sleep quality, a decrease in distractions, and enhanced concentration during meditation.
