Mindlab, a non-profit association, will hold its “Healing Universe 2 – Healing and Happiness, Soma Samuryang Sim Artistic Meditation Journey” for 2 nights and 3 days from the 21st to the 23rd at Korea DMZ Peace Life Mountaintop in Inje, Gangwon Province.
This program is a 2-night, 3-day artistic meditation workshop with Jung Yeon-jae Ma (Anshinjeong), an expert in art meditation healing, where participants feel their body and mind in nature and work to restore a sense of connection with themselves and others, and with nature.
Introduction to the Artistic Meditation Journey Program
The trip focuses on experiencing and internalizing “soma” and “samuryang sim” firsthand through artistic meditation. Participants will examine their own bodies and emotions and experience mutual connectedness with others and nature through meditation, singing bowl sound healing, movement and touch, artistic expression, and activities in the forest.
“Soma” refers not to a simple body, but to the whole living body—one that feels on its own and moves and lives. “Samuryang sim (four immeasurable minds)” in Buddhism refers to four minds cultivated toward oneself and the world: loving-kindness (慈), compassion/mercy (悲), joy (喜), and tranquility/equanimity (捨).
The program consists of six sessions in total. On the first day, participants will step away from daily life and spend time focusing on their body and mind and staying in the present through “Dropping the anchor: connectedness and welcome,” and “Wholeness and presence: connectedness and singing bowl sound healing.” On the second day, they will take part in “Tranquility: connectedness and new eyes,” “No boundaries: connectedness and support,” and “Soma and touch: connectedness and compassion.” In particular, the sessions held in the forest are designed to help participants view the boundary between nature and the body in a new way and to experience the meaning of connection through senses and relationships. On the final day, they will continue the sense of connection and joy experienced in the program into everyday life through “A new journey: connectedness and joy.”
In addition, they will set aside time to think about peace and life, as well as the relationship between nature and human beings, through a special lecture by Jeong Seong-heon, the chairman of Korea DMZ Peace Life Mountaintop.
- Led by Jung Yeon-jae Ma, an expert in art meditation healing
Jung Yeon-jae Ma, who leads the program, is a Buddhist monk of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and holds a doctorate in literature. She serves as the CEO of the AUM Artistic Meditation Healing Center. She makes regular appearances on the BBS radio segment “What is good about meditation” on the program “Clarifying the nameless.” She also works in various areas of body-and-mind healing, including singing bowl sound healing and meditation, expressive arts psychological counseling, and Buddhist psychological counseling.
The program is differentiated from existing meditation programs in that it does not stop at learning samuryang sim as Buddhist doctrine, but instead has participants experience and internalize it directly through body sensations, artistic expression, sound and movement, and encounters with nature.
- A workshop for people who want to understand themselves more deeply
Mindlab CEO Jo Seong-taek said, “In this program, meditation does not require any special training ability. It begins with the experience of feeling and recognizing your own body and mind as they are,” adding, “We organized the program so that participants can understand themselves more deeply and recover a sense of connection in life through nature and art, mediated by sound and movement.”
He added, “It is a journey where people who want to pause their busy daily lives to care for their body and mind can participate in a friendly way through art, even if they found meditation difficult.”
The program is recommended for people who want to understand themselves more deeply; those who want to experience healing that takes care of both body and mind together; those who want to release stress and tension in a healthy way; those who want to experience meditation easily and enjoyably; those who want to cultivate love, compassion, joy, and tranquility; those who want to express themselves freely through art; and those who want to spend time connected with warm people.
