[Oh Hye-sun Column]『Abundance Code』 Yoon Yu-ri's subconscious-cleansing workshop 'Abundance: Recoded 21' inaugural cohort opens Sept. 12

Last July, I covered the Café Harin Book Salon at Secret Woman Line Hall in Daejeon. I was not there simply to report on the event. At the request of CEO Hyun Hye-sun, I personally led a singing bowl meditation. As participants relaxed more deeply, author Yoon Yu-ri's cosmic meditation followed naturally. I still remember the feeling of the 100-pyeong hall quietly filling with words such as gratitude and blessing over the roughly 30 minutes we followed her voice.

One thing stayed with me as a lingering regret. Three hours was enough to open important questions, but not enough to carry those questions into daily life. Watching the participants leave, I felt the conversation needed to continue longer and connect with the way they lived.

That continuation begins Sept. 12. It is the inaugural cohort of Yoon's 'Abundance: Recoded 21.'

The time we tried to change only the fruit while leaving the soil untouched

At the center of the book-concert lecture was a single tree. The fruit at the ends of its branches represented the outcomes we want to change, such as money, health and relationships. The roots represented subconscious programs and beliefs, while the soil surrounding them represented our state of consciousness. Yoon identified the reason change is slow: We have been trying to change the fruit while leaving the soil untouched.

This program is structured as a practical application of that image. The organizers explain that recurring problems in money, relationships, careers, emotions and the direction of one's life may look different on the surface but can all rest on old patterns we do not recognize. The proposal is to identify and clear those patterns before learning how to perform better.

Expand, clear, choose and live

The course unfolds in four stages: expanding consciousness (EXPAND), clearing old patterns and beliefs (CLEAR), choosing a desired future and reality anew (CREATE), and embodying that change in daily life over 21 days (LIVE).

The first three stages will be covered online via Zoom on Sept. 12 and 13, for about three hours each day. The first day examines consciousness and the subconscious, as well as thoughts and emotions, before moving into cosmic meditation and cleansing exercises. The second day begins with a discussion reflecting on the previous day's work, followed by 3MIQ questions, cosmic meditation, and exercises to record images, emotions and insights. The cosmic meditation I experienced once in Daejeon will unfold over two days this time, with the goals of cleansing and creating the future.

A 21-day commitment at 7 a.m.

The part I watched most closely was what happens after the workshop. Many people have listened to an excellent lecture only to return to their old routines a few days later. I have, too.

The embodiment phase, which runs from Sept. 14 through Oct. 4, is designed to address that problem. Participants meet live for about an hour at 7 a.m. on weekdays for guided meditation, then continue with self-directed practice on weekends. Those who cannot participate on a given day can review a recording. Three weeks may be too short to complete something fully, but it is long enough to change direction.

Records become evidence of change

Documentation lies at the heart of the course. Participants face their experiences as they are, explore themselves through 3MIQ questions, write their thoughts and feelings in a meditation journal, and organize the meaning of the images, emotions and insights that arise. It is a six-step process of tracking the accumulated flow and identifying one's own patterns. A workbook, meditation journal and insight log are provided.

The design clearly aims to keep the experience from ending with nothing more than the feeling that things have improved. From the perspective of someone who has covered meditation for many years, this may determine whether the program succeeds.

“I’m not someone who teaches meditation”

Yoon Yu-ri's background is unusual in the meditation field. She began her career as a flight attendant for Asiana Airlines and British Airways, earned an MBA in Britain, and went on to qualify as a lawyer, accountant and tax adviser. She now works as a tax partner at a British law firm. Her work covers international taxation, corporate structures, real estate and mergers and acquisitions — a world she has built through numbers and logic.

At the book salon, she said the question that had driven her 20 years of exploration was, “Who am I?” She said that although she kept earning professional certifications, a part of her remained empty, and meditation became the tool she used to seek an answer. A sentence in the introduction to the program points to the same idea: “I’m not someone who teaches meditation; I’m someone who guides people in ways to redesign their lives.”

True abundance is a life in which eight areas become assets

In her lecture that day, Yoon discussed eight areas of life: mind and self, health, relationships, finances, work, beliefs and community. She described true abundance as a life in which each area becomes an asset rather than a liability. She said the Latin word abundare, the root of “abundance,” comes from unda, meaning wave. It refers not to barely filling an area of lack to restore balance, but to a state in which what has already filled up overflows beyond the container.

I would recommend this course to anyone who has worked hard but feels caught in repetition; wants to understand subconscious patterns; wants to examine their beliefs about money and abundance; needs a transition in their relationships or career; or wants to connect meditation with real-world change.

At the threshold of autumn, participants will devote 21 full days to changing themselves. Given that this is the first cohort, the energy of the people beginning together will likely become part of the process. If the air that filled that hall moves into each participant's mornings for 21 days, I would like to report again on how they have changed.
