Last July, I covered the Cafe Harin book salon held at Secret Woman Rein Hall in Daejeon. I was not there simply to report on the event. At the request of CEO Hyun Hye-sun, I led a singing-bowl meditation session, and as the relaxation deepened, writer Yun Yu-ri's cosmic meditation followed naturally. I still remember the feeling of the 100-pyeong hall quietly filling with the words ‘gratitude’ and ‘blessing’ as we followed her voice for around 30 minutes.
One thing stayed with me as a disappointment. Three hours was enough to open up good questions, but too short to carry those questions into everyday life. Watching the participants leave, I felt the story needed to continue for longer and connect with their lives.
That continuation begins on 12 September. It is the founding cohort of Yun's ‘Abundance: Recoded 21’.
The time we tried to change the fruit while leaving the soil untouched
A single tree stood at the centre of the book-concert talk. The fruit at the ends of its branches represented the outcomes we want to change, such as money, health and relationships. The roots represented unconscious programmes and beliefs, while the soil surrounding them represented our state of consciousness. Yun identified the reason change is slow: we have tried to change the fruit while leaving the soil untouched.
This programme is structured to turn that image into practice. The organisers say that recurring problems may look different in money and relationships, careers, emotions and the direction of our lives, but old patterns we do not recognise may lie beneath them. Their proposal is to see and clear those patterns before learning how to perform better.
Expand, clear, choose and live it
The course is divided into four stages: expanding awareness (EXPAND), clearing old patterns and beliefs (CLEAR), choosing the future and reality we want again (CREATE), and embodying that change in daily life for 21 days (LIVE).
The first three stages will be covered online via Zoom on 12 and 13 September, for about three hours each day. The first day examines consciousness and the unconscious, thoughts and emotions, before moving into cosmic meditation and cleansing exercises. The second begins with a discussion reflecting on the previous day, followed by 3MIQ questions, cosmic meditation, and exercises recording images, emotions and insights. The cosmic meditation I experienced once in Daejeon will this time be delivered over two days with the specific aims of cleansing and creating the future.

A 21-day commitment, at 7am each morning
The part I personally watched most closely was what happens after the workshop. Many people will have experienced listening to an excellent talk, only to return to their old routines a few days later. I have too.
The embodiment phase, running from 14 September to 4 October, is designed to address that point. Participants meet live for about an hour at 7am on weekdays for guided meditation, while continuing with self-practice at weekends. Anyone unable to take part on a given day can review the recording. Three weeks may be too short to complete something, but it is long enough to change direction.
Records become evidence of change
Recording lies at the heart of the course. Participants face their experiences as they are, explore themselves through 3MIQ questions, write their thoughts and emotions in a meditation journal, and organise the meaning of the images, emotions and insights that arise. It is a six-step process of tracking that accumulating flow and identifying their own patterns. A workbook, meditation journal and insight log are provided.
The design is clearly intended to ensure the process does not end with merely feeling that things have improved. From the perspective of someone who has covered meditation for many years, this is likely to determine whether the programme succeeds or fails.

“I am not someone who teaches meditation”
Yun Yu-ri's background is unusual in the meditation field. She began her working life as a cabin crew member for Asiana Airlines and British Airways, completed an MBA in the UK, and went on to qualify as a solicitor, accountant and tax accountant. She now works as a tax partner at a British law firm. Her career has been built around international taxation, corporate structures, property and mergers and acquisitions: a world constructed through figures and logic.
At the book concert, she said the question that had driven her 20-year exploration was ‘Who am I?’ She described how, despite continually gaining qualifications, she still felt empty inside, and how meditation became the tool she used to seek the answer. A sentence in the introduction to the programme points to the same place: “I am not someone who teaches meditation; I am someone who guides people in redesigning their lives.”
True abundance is a life in which eight areas become assets
In her talk that day, Yun discussed eight areas of life: spirit and self, health, relationships, finances, work, beliefs and community. She described true abundance as a life in which each area becomes an asset rather than a liability. The Latin root of abundance, abundare, is said to derive from unda, meaning a wave. It refers not to barely filling what is lacking to restore a balance, but to a state in which what is already full overflows beyond the vessel.
I would recommend this course to anyone who has worked hard but feels caught in repetition; wants to understand their unconscious patterns; wants to reflect on their beliefs about money and abundance; needs a transition in their relationships or career; or wants to connect meditation with real-world change.
At the threshold of autumn, spending 21 full days changing yourself. Given that this is the founding cohort, the energy and commitment of those starting together will also become part of the process. If the atmosphere that filled that hall is carried into each participant's mornings for 21 days, I would like to report again on how those departing figures have changed.
